Omni Barton Creek Resort Appoints New Director of Associate Services

Sylvia Deer to Lead the Property's Associate Services Division as Industry Veteran

AUSTIN, Texas (May 17, 2017) – Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa announced today the appointment of Sylvia Deer as director of associate services. In this role, Deer will direct all areas of human resources including recruiting, salary administration, associate services and benefits and management development. Deer is taking over the position as the current director, Michelle Smith, is retiring from the industry after spending the last 20 years with Omni Hotels & Resorts.

Deer has served as Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa’s assistant director of associate services since 2016. Before joining the resort, she was the director of human resources for the Crystal Bay Casino in Nevada for more than 10 years. Prior, she was the assistant front desk manager and opening team member of the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort, where she eventually transferred to the human resources department as the benefits and employee relations manager. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a member of Society for Human Resources Management and the National Association for Catering & Events.

Prior to Smith’s tenure at Omni Barton Creek, she served as corporate director of training at the Omni Austin Downtown Hotel with additional responsibilities as an area director of associate services where she oversaw the majority of Omni’s Texas properties. She began her Omni career at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark in 1997. Career accolades include Omni Hotels & Resorts “Associate Services Director of the Year” and the “Donald Pritzker National Award for Excellence in Training.”
