HISTORY

One of the oldest cities in America, San Antonio offers an incredibly rich history and a diverse culture that families have enjoyed for generations. During the spring months in particular, our warm and constantly sunny weather provides visitors with a pleasant setting where they can enjoy The Alamo City’s many offerings. At the Omni La Mansión del Rio, we put families first, and our guests feel that the moment they walk into our lobby.   

Much like the city that we call home, Omni La Mansión del Rio resides in a building that has a long and storied past. The property was originally home to the St. Mary’s Institute, which was opened on March 1, 1853 and was later relocated in 1966. In April of 1968, “La Mansión” - as it’s known by locals - opened its doors as the first luxury hotel on the San Antonio River Walk. An oasis of cypress-lined paths and famous attractions including the “Selena Bridge,” our city’s beloved River Walk winds through the heart of San Antonio and features river barge tours that showcase our incredibly rich history. The Omni La Mansión del Rio’s River Walk location allows families to easily access the best that San Antonio has to offer.

The world-famous Alamo just celebrated its 181^st anniversary and is one of Five Missions recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It's located only minutes away from the hotel. Other San Antonio attractions nearby include the San Fernando Cathedral, Briscoe Western Art Museum, the Buckhorn Museum, the Texas Ranger Museum, Hemisfair Park & Institute of Cultures, La Villita Historic Arts Village and El Mercado.
