Partner Commemoration Celebrates New Omni Viking Lakes Hotel; Ownership Unveils Construction Update and Model Room Design
Hotel to stand 14 stories and feature American-Nordic design elements throughout
EAGAN, MINN. (Aug. 19, 2019) – MV Eagan Ventures, with partners Ecolab, Inc.; the Davis Family of Cambria; Viking Lakes Hotel Physician Partners; and Omni Hotels & Resorts today gathered to commemorate their partnership and reveal key design and construction updates of the new Omni Viking Lakes Hotel.
“This hotel is a crucial component of the entire Viking Lakes development and will be a tremendous asset for the community and the region,” said MV Eagan Ventures Owner/President Mark Wilf. “We are proud to collaborate with local companies that bring expertise in product development, innovative technology and customer service and to partner with such a reputable brand like Omni Hotels & Resorts to bring this to fruition.”
Construction Update / Quick Facts:
- The hotel is currently sitting at 11 stories high with just three stories of concrete pour remaining.
- To date, 491 tons of structural steel have been used and nearly 16,000 cubic yards of concrete have been poured.
- Approximately 150 craft workers are on the construction site each day and have worked more than 68,000 hours to date. This includes concrete workers, electricians, plumbers, mechanical workers, drywall framers and masons.
- More than 35 Minnesota companies have already worked on the project and nearly 14% of the work is being performed by veterans, women and minorities.
- When complete, Omni Viking Lakes Hotel will include 356,000 square feet of space, or approximately 6 football fields.
- Set to open in October 2020.
“For every new hotel project, we always ask ‘Is this the right city, the right partners and the right location?’” said Peter Strebel, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “We’ve had our eyes on the Minneapolis-St. Paul area for a while and this is the right group of partners for Omni Viking Lakes Hotel. Expanding in to Minnesota, and more specifically Eagan, is a part of the strategic growth of our company and we’re excited for the future of this project.”
The hotel design, and specifically the model rooms, draw upon Nordic architectural traditions and features elements inspired by the American Nordic landscapes of the North and the dynamic and unpredictable character of its climate and seasons. Awe-inspiring occurrences, such as the northern lights, combined with feelings of comfort, well-being and refuge inspire many of the forms, finishes and features within the hotel. Clean lines, neutral color palettes and simple, but deliberate design elements are showcased throughout the guest rooms and public spaces.
Model Room Design Facts:
Representing the Nordic’s forest-rich countries, the guest room corridors feature picturesque trees and fading mist as if walking through a forest.
- Upon entering the guest room, the foyer opens at a wide angle showcasing floor-to-ceiling windows. The entry floor tile is a chevron pattern appropriately named “Nordic Stone” and appears neutral with icy movement.
- The geometry of the architecture offers crisp angles similar to a glacier and guides guests through to the large bedroom; however, soft curves are used to contrast the hard, angular architecture.
- Framed artwork features famous Icelandic ice forms and images reminiscent of the blues and purples found lake-side in Minnesota.
- The silhouette of the corner floor lamp subtly references the scaffolding that holds ships as they are built.
Construction is being led by MN Development Company, LLC, in collaboration with Minnesota-based firm Kraus Anderson. Architecture and interior design were conceptualized by ESG Architecture & Design. The hotel is a substantial piece of the Viking Lakes mixed-use development, a “Live, Work, Play” destination easily accessible from downtowns Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Mall of America and MSP International Airport. Viking Lakes is home to the Minnesota Vikings headquarters Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center and TCO Stadium. Additional uses for the planned development include corporate offices, retail, restaurants and entertainment.
