Omni knows it’s difficult to keep up with your healthy habits during the holiday season, especially when you are traveling. Season’s greeting turns into season’s eating, and you’re left feeling down around the New Year. Travel makes it easier to make questionable food choices, and makes it harder to get to the gym. But don’t fret- Omni has your back with a variety of healthy options and travel tips to keep you fit during the holiday season!
1. Plan a 5K Around Your Stay
The holiday season is full of charitable events in the cities where our hotels and resorts are located, especially popular 5K runs. Take this time to not only give back to a charity, stay in shape, and get a first-person perspective of the city you’re visiting! Get the whole family involved, or brave it on your own. It’s easy to find races in the cities near our Omni properties! Simply search for a race schedule for the city you are staying in on sites like RunningInTheUSA.com. There are plenty of options to choose from and there is most likely a race around the time you will be staying during the holidays.
2. Follow Omni Nutritionist Cheryl Forberg’s Healthy Travel Tips
Cheryl Forberg, R.D., joined the Omni Hotels & Resorts family in 2013 as the in-house brand nutritionist. With the addition of Cheryl and her close work with our chefs, they have developed healthy alternatives for our restaurants. Along with the changes made to menu items, she completed some Healthy Travel Tips on healthy eating and snacks that you can bring with you on your vacation. Her holiday specific advice includes her Do’s and Don’ts for a Healthier Holiday Season, focusing on portion control, when to call it quits with dessert, and healthy alternatives to season favorites. With the help of all of Cheryl’s advice, you and your family should have an enjoyable and worry free holiday season.
3. Learn to Meditate With The Chopra Center
The Chopra Center for Wellbeing, founded by world-renowned mind-body physicians Deepak Chopra, M.D. and David Simon, M.D., is the global source for learning meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda. Nestled within Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in San Diego, The Chopra Center provides the perfect setting for renewal and restoring balance. As part of Omni Hotels & Resorts longstanding commitment to providing guests with health and wellness options, we have partnered with the Chopra Center on the upcoming 21-Day Meditation Experience, Energy of Attraction. The Meditation Experience starts on November 3 and allows Deepak and Oprah to share the art of meditation with you and promote a healthy mind.
4. Discover More of What Your Hotel Has To Offer…Outside
Many of the Omni Hotels & Resorts feature activities that promote health and wellness. The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia has 32 different activities to get you outside in the fresh air- from fly fishing and hiking to canoeing and biking. Indoor and winter activities are offered as well at many of our cooler weather resorts. If cold weather isn’t your forte, then some of our beachside resorts like the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort hold beachside yoga classes. Our more daring and advanced instructors even take to the paddle boards for paddle board yoga. Wherever your travels take you, take time to get outside- Omni has a memorable experience waiting for you.
5. Rediscover The Art of Breakfast
Omni Hotels and Resorts recognized the demand for more food options based on our guests’ dietary needs and created the Art of Breakfast. This breakfast includes a variety of gluten-free choices for our guests to make during breakfast. The gluten-free stations offer an assortment of gluten-free breads, English muffins, and other items to accompany the traditional breakfast stations. To avoid cross-contamination, the toasters include protective sleeves for the gluten-free products and the stations are located a short distance from each other. Other updates made to the Art of Breakfast includes more locally sourced items, such as condiments, jams and honeys. Omni wanted to provide more choices at breakfast for our guests no matter what their dietary restrictions are. Along with our gluten-free breakfast offerings, some restaurants in certain hotels have gluten-free lunch and dinner menus. The menus offerings further establish our longstanding commitment to providing guests with health and wellness options.
6. Fitness Centers – Your Workout Home Away From Home
Omni would hate for your travel schedule to interrupt your fitness schedule, that’s why each of our hotels are equipped with fitness centers. These centers are conveniently located in your hotel and provide you with a variety of machines and free weights to help you continue your workouts while you travel. The holiday season is especially busy with family, food, and fun, but don’t forget to set aside some time for yourself. Stay healthy this holiday season and utilize the fitness facilities Omni has to offer!
7. Love Your Room? Try A Get Fit Kit
Perhaps you don’t like working out in the hotel fitness center and would rather stick to a workout in your room. Omni offers complimentary Get Fit Kits! Each kit comes equipped with 2-lb dumbbells, stretch cords, water bottle, and floor mat. Now it’s easy for you to do yoga, Pilates, or a quick workout comfortably in your room! Omni also offers for a nominal fee, the Get Fit Room. The room includes a treadmill and a Get Fit Kit. There are no excuses to skip a workout during the holiday season when you have a Get Fit Kit!
